What are the scoring models RICE and ICE?
RICE and ICE are two frameworks for evaluating and prioritizing your projects. The RICE method assesses a project's Reach, Impact, Confidence, and Effort using key performance indicators (KPIs) and combines them into four factors. The resulting RICE score can then be used as a benchmark for prioritizing your ideas in the roadmap.
The ICE model works similarly, but here the three factors Impact, Cofindence, and Ease (influence, confidence, and ease) are assessed and then multiplied to create an ICE score, which is used in the same way as the RICE score. Both scoring models thus serve as value-based evaluation systems for weighting your projects.
What are the goals and advantages of the RICE/ICE scoring models?
Both prioritization methods allow you to objectively and easily assess which of your projects and ideas have the highest priority. Instead of conducting a complex project assessment that is time-consuming and often based on pure intuition, RICE/ICE scoring, as a key performance indicator-based evaluation system, enables you to make a consistent and neutral assessment.
What can the RICE/ICE scoring models do for your company?
In addition to the data-driven evaluation of projects in your roadmap, prioritization methods can also promote alignment between managers and stakeholders. Furthermore, RICE and ICE help teams make quick and efficient joint decisions and include all important factors in their assessments, especially those relevant factors that are often neglected in subjective evaluations.
Using the RICE/ICE prioritization methods, projects can be evaluated on a quantitative level. The teams' assessments are not only largely value-neutral but also remain dynamic, as the systems are both time-saving and effective. Furthermore, all factors are weighted equally, ensuring that each aspect has an appropriate influence on the overall RICE/ICE score.
