Unterschiedliche Medien bei einer Präsentation richtig einsetzen

Using different media correctly in a presentation

|Tom Schweitzer

A well-designed PowerPoint presentation can provide the foundation for an excellent presentation. However, those who skillfully switch between different media have the chance to impress their audience even more. We have some tips for you.

Your audience consists of diverse individuals, each with their own unique way of absorbing information. While some learn best through listening, others are more visually oriented, and still others need to actively read along to retain the content. In addition to a PowerPoint presentation, you can utilize other media to reach the broadest possible audience.

Interaction can be particularly effective here: when your audience can actively participate, the content becomes more engaging and is more memorable. At the same time, you should avoid clutter and carefully select the media you use. The following media, when used correctly, can liven up a presentation.

Flipchart
Using a flipchart allows you to develop content in front of your audience, automatically creating an atmosphere of participation. However, this medium is also only suitable for smaller groups, as it's impossible for all participants to contribute to a large audience.

Taking notes on a flipchart must also be done relatively quickly and in large print so that the entire audience can follow along and there are no lulls. You can also implement something similar digitally, for example, in the form of a mind map in PowerPoint.

Pinboards and magnetic boards
These media are particularly suitable if you can use prepared cards in different colors, shapes, or sizes. You can present information in a structured way, depending on how it emerges from the presentation. The flow of the presentation can be varied during the presentation itself.

A good use case is for collecting ideas during a presentation or gathering feedback afterward. If you're also using a PowerPoint presentation, you can use the pinboard or magnetic board to record content you'll refer back to repeatedly during your presentation.

Handouts

A handout provides a concise summary of all the essential information. Ideally, you should design the handout so that listeners can easily jot down any questions or notes that arise. The handout should always clearly reflect the structure of the presentation, ensuring that the content is readily accessible to the audience.

Demonstration objects
Objects, models, or props are excellent tools for emphasizing specific aspects of your presentation. Especially during a product presentation, it's essential to physically present the product, if possible. Passing the object around to the audience creates a sense of participation. Ideally, the object should always be shown at the precise moment that best fits the presentation.
