Treemaps are nested rectangles and are ideal for visualizing hierarchical structures or displaying a hierarchical view of data, for example, when you want to show which products sell best in your company. The rectangles define different categories, which can be distinguished by color.
Treemaps offer numerous advantages over conventional diagrams:
- They add variety to your presentation and thus pique your audience's interest. The unusual type of diagram attracts attention and sparks interest.
- They can be used in combination with image backgrounds, allowing you to strategically incorporate flags, product images, logos, buildings, and other impactful graphics. This is particularly useful for product or company presentations.
- Treemaps make it easier to recognize patterns and thus provide a clearer overview. Categories can be easily color-coded, allowing for the clear presentation of a large amount of data.
- Branching structures can be excellently represented using rectangles; each subordinate branch can be indicated as a smaller rectangle. This allows your audience to easily follow the presentation, even with complex hierarchies.
- Furthermore, treemaps make it easier to illustrate the relative sizes of different categories. The areas of the rectangles are chosen proportionally to the size of the data unit being represented. Treemaps are particularly useful for visualizing relationships.
