Tipps für Ihre Strategie-Präsentation in PowerPoint

Strategy presentation: How to successfully develop and communicate your corporate strategies!

|Tom Schweitzer

In the business world, it's not uncommon to have to present your company strategy or other internal strategies (e.g., a strategy presentation for a product launch) to an audience. Such strategy presentations are particularly important for startups, as they clarify the company's future and the path to achieving it for both team members and external stakeholders.

Today we will show you how to skillfully develop a strategy and present it professionally in a strategy presentation.

These are the types of strategy presentations that exist.

A strategy presentation doesn't necessarily have to be the fundamental, all-encompassing corporate strategy. Other strategies concerning internal company processes can also be presented within a strategy presentation. These could include, for example:

  • Corporate strategy
  • Product Launch Strategy
  • Marketing strategy
  • Personnel strategy
  • Growth strategy
  • Social Media Strategy
  • Financial strategy
  • Etc.

Develop corporate strategy(ies)

Every company needs a strategy that is followed and that will drive its growth . Corporate strategy is a central element of a company's management. By defining the strategy , internal priorities are set, and visions and goals are established.

Please note: Developing a strategy for your company takes time . Strategies that are decided hastily should be avoided whenever possible.

First, clarify the concept of "strategy." Many people confuse it with a goal, a vision, or a measure to achieve a goal . A strategy is comprised of these elements. It represents a long-term plan that defines how and with what measures you can achieve your goals.

To develop a successful and future-oriented strategy, you need to consider a wide range of aspects. The following questions will help you create a good strategy .

  • What makes your company stand out? What sets it apart from its competitors?
  • How do you convince potential customers?
  • How can you market your company/product/idea?
  • What budget is available?
  • What is the personnel situation?
  • What problems can arise during the implementation of certain processes?
  • What are its strengths and weaknesses?
  • Etc.

The following steps can also help in developing a strategy:

  • vision

"Strategic planning is worthless – unless you first have a strategic vision ." (John Naisbitt - US futurist)

Every business idea is based on a vision . What do you want to achieve with your company? What gap in the market do you want to fill? Define the purpose of your company. Define its precise reason for existing .

A vision also includes defining a goal . This doesn't necessarily have to be financial in nature. What can your company become in the future?

Once you have addressed these points, you have created a valuable foundation.

  • competition
Develop a corporate strategy

Normally, there are already similar or closely related competitors to your business idea. Analyze the market environment .

Which trends are your competitors following? How successful are they with them? What sales opportunities would you have with the same or a similar idea?

Such market analysis can be particularly difficult for startups with new business ideas. The lack of experience reports makes it more challenging to assess potential business success.

  • Strengths and weaknesses

This brings us to your company . What role do you want to play in the market? How many employees do you need, and what is your current staffing situation? If you already have sales figures, how are they developing?

Often, external consultants are brought in at this point to provide an unbiased assessment of your company.

Use online tools for your assessment. Some of these are freely accessible and can give you a quick overview of your conversion rate, web analytics, etc. Based on this, you can define a strategic direction.

Tools and methods to help with strategy development

To support your strategy development, you can use various methods and tools:

  • SWOT analysis

In the three points of the last chapter, you have now established all the important facts and fundamentals. The important thing now is to compile this information in order to develop an effective strategy. Now use the SWOT analysis to your advantage.

SWOT analysis is a widely used tool in strategic management and marketing for describing a company's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.

The SWOT analysis primarily helps you determine your company's position within the overall industry. This involves considering both internal factors (strengths and weaknesses) and external aspects (risks and opportunities). These two areas can be interrelated.

The SWOT analysis helps sustainably to utilize strengths and opportunities in order to minimize weaknesses and risks and, in the long term, to assert oneself as a competitor in one's own industry.

Compile all the facts in the SWOT analysis . The matrix will then provide a set of instructions for action. Detailed instructions for using the SWOT analysis can be found, for example, here .

Why you should use PowerPoint for strategy presentations

Microsoft Office PowerPoint, with its user-friendly interface, offers numerous ways to present complex information in simple visualizations and attractive designs. A PowerPoint presentation allows you to display all the important information at a glance, eliminating the need for the audience to read up on it beforehand . This makes it easier for decision-makers to reach quick and informed decisions on open questions.

Strategy presentation: How to present correctly!

You have developed the optimal (business) strategy. Now it's time to present it. We will now explain what you need to pay attention to in order to communicate your strategy effectively to your audience.

One of the most important things to remember is this: A strategy presentation is not simply presenting a plan . It's not enough to just list tactics and present them with a timeline. The strategy is how you convince your audience that your plan is great, so they agree with the core idea. The strategy represents your guiding principle .

Your guiding principle must be supported visually . Use key performance indicators (KPIs) and present them in appealing tables. Important: Use slides only to support your presentation. To attract potential clients, you should appeal to emotions. Tell a story and integrate your KPIs into it. Further information can be found in our storytelling article .

What slides do you need in a strategy presentation?

There is no single, definitive answer to this question. Every strategy presentation is unique and requires slides specifically tailored to that strategy.

However, you can generally follow this pattern:

  • Slide #1: Task

The first slide should be carefully designed. It creates the first impression and lets your audience decide whether they are interested in your idea.

On the first slide, state the purpose of your presentation . Identify the goal or business problem around which the strategy was built. Alternatively, you can show a diagram or use an image that illustrates the problem upon which you developed the strategy. Explain more verbally than you reveal on the slide. This will ensure your audience isn't preoccupied with reading the content while you speak.

Choose one option. Don't overwhelm the audience right from the start. Let them understand the context. That will guarantee their attention.

  • Slide #2: Insight

Your strategy is based on an insight. Ideally, you have thoroughly developed this insight through market analysis and research during the incident. The insight slide now presents the results obtained from the market analysis.

Combine this with a narrative to make it understandable for your audience. For example: "In summer, brand X diet drinks have a higher market share." This presents your observation. The insight you draw from this is: "When it's hot, people prefer to drink refreshing beverages, such as diet drinks."

Use sentence form for your key finding slide. Depending on your audience, it can be helpful to preface the key finding with specific figures or trends you've identified . This might help those unfamiliar with the topic understand the context better. If you're not including this data on the slide itself, be sure to have it prepared as an appendix to your presentation. That way, if questions arise, you'll be prepared and can project these slides.

  • Slide #3: Guiding principle

The key message slide is the first slide that illustrates the strategy . Take your time with this slide, as it needs to be compelling. State your key message clearly and concisely in a few words .

Word choice is important, as the key message should be memorable and stick in the mind. Pay attention to the slide design as well; don't overload it, keep it as clear as possible. Focus on the key message.

  • Slide #4: Visual Model

Their strategy is built around solving a problem. This goal is to be achieved in a specific way. It's a prediction of what might become reality, based on data and experience. To present this complex issue as simply as possible to the audience, you should use a visual model .

Carefully consider how you construct such a model. It should depict all steps and actions and show which ones are prioritized. It should illustrate the relationships between them and demonstrate how they achieve the desired goal.

Represent the model, for example, as a diagram . Use Venn diagrams, pyramids, or a flywheel. Other visualization options are also possible. Get inspired in our shop and see which model would suit you best! ► To the shop

  • Slide #5: Tactics

This part of the strategy presentation can consist of one or more slides. Here you include all the tactics you have planned to achieve the objectives . Explain each step precisely and continue to be clear and concise.

Questions may arise during this slide. Consider in advance what questions might arise and whether it is possible to answer them on the slide or in the presentation.

Otherwise, be prepared for questions. You can also include further information in the presentation appendix and retrieve it upon request.

  • Slide #6: Schedule

Use timelines on this slide to better visualize your planned timing of specific tasks. Illustrate the duration of different strategy phases as well as milestones you aim to achieve by a particular date.

Indicate when you plan to present progress and when you expect to have achieved your desired result.

Try to describe your visions as realistically as possible.

  • Slide #7: Closing slide

The final slide of your strategy presentation should also be well thought out. Since it's the last thing your audience sees and hears, it's especially important to emphasize the key points so they stick in their minds .

Briefly summarize the most important points. This doesn't necessarily have to be on a slide (remember, less is often more, don't overload your slides!), but can also be done verbally.

To make a lasting impression, you could end with a powerful quote that illustrates your motivation or with a list of the next steps. Whatever you choose, convey that you stand behind your strategy and have a positive outlook on your company's future.

Time should also be allotted for questions . Prepare for detailed questions. Be prepared and appear competent by being able to answer all questions, possibly even with supporting slides from your appendix.

Extra tip: Deliver your presentation professionally

Your slides can be perfectly crafted, but if your accompanying presentation comes across as unprofessional and awkward, your strategy will only be taken seriously if you appear competent, self-assured, and confident .
