How to make your PowerPoint presentations stand out on SlideShare

|Tom Schweitzer

SlideShare is one of the most popular file-hosting platforms online, allowing you to make your PowerPoint presentations accessible to a wide audience. Many companies use SlideShare to showcase their products or demonstrate their expertise in specific subject areas. To ensure your presentations truly engage SlideShare users and encourage them to do more than just click through the slides, you should consider the following tips.

1. Lots of pictures, little text

As with presentations for lectures, when publishing on SlideShare, you shouldn't overload your slides with text. Key terms or core messages should be supported by appropriate, meaningful images and symbols. Endless bullet-point lists and walls of text, on the other hand, deter users. They expect your content to be visually appealing. If you have a lot of text-based information, you should consider e-books, informational brochures as PDFs, or other publication formats.

2. Pay attention to the number of slides.

It is recommended to have 10 to 25 slides for your presentation. Fewer slides might give the impression that you have nothing to say or that you can't do justice to the topic in so few slides. However, it shouldn't be more than that either, as you ultimately want to guide the audience to the end of your presentation, where concrete offers or a call to action await.

3. Search engine optimization

To ensure your presentation is found by as many users as possible, similar rules apply as with other content formats on the internet: The most important keywords for your topic must be included in the title, description and tags so that your presentation can be found in SlideShare, but also via other search engines like Google.

4. Share your presentation

SlideShare places various social media buttons below the presentations. With one click, you can quickly and easily share your presentation on Facebook, Twitter, and other platforms, reaching a broad audience beyond the file-hosting service's users. You can also embed SlideShare presentations in your blog.

5. Call to Action!

Very important: You should include a call to action on your last slide. SlideShare allows you to insert a link into your presentation that directs users to the desired (external) website. Use the platform as a marketing tool and link to a landing page where they can find further information on the presentation topic or relevant purchase offers.
