You're probably familiar with spectacular zooms from presentation software like Prezi . With just a few clicks, you can also create a PowerPoint zoom, navigate through your presentation in an impressive way , and open and close selected chapter slides via zoom.
The PowerPoint zoom effect isn't just about simply enlarging or reducing the size of a slide. It creates small preview images of the desired slides, which can then be enlarged or opened with a click in presentation mode. Another click reduces or closes them, returning you to the overview.
This article will show you how to incorporate this dynamic effect into your presentation.
PowerPoint zoom, what is it?
Creating a PowerPoint zoom allows you to jump to specific sections and slides in your presentation. The order doesn't need to be predetermined; it can be decided during the presentation. This has the advantage of preventing you from searching for the desired slide during your presentation , thus ensuring you don't lose your audience's attention.
Which PowerPoint version supports the zoom effect?
Zoom for PowerPoint is available in Microsoft 365 and PowerPoint 2019. For Mac users, the zoom function is available from version 16.19.18110915 onwards.

Tutorial: How to adjust the PowerPoint zoom effect
To set a PowerPoint zoom, select the "Zoom" option in the "Insert" tab.

This option suggests various zoom types. In the next section, we explain what summary zoom, slide zoom , and section zoom mean and how you can apply them to your presentation.

PowerPoint Zoom: Summary Zoom
If you want to see your entire presentation on one slide , select the summary zoom . This feature allows you to view your presentation similarly to a homepage. Here you can see all the slides and, for example, jump from one slide to the next during your presentation . You can also arrange the slides in any order you like.
You can insert a summary zoom by clicking " Summary Zoom" under the "Zoom" option. This will open the Insert Summary Zoom dialog box. You can now select the slides you want to display in your summary zoom. You can also deactivate slides as needed if you don't want your entire presentation shown.

Once you have selected all the slides, click "Insert". Your summary zoom will be created and displayed as a new slide before the first slide. You can also edit your summary zoom after it has been created. To do this, go to the "Format" tab and then select "Edit Summary".
PowerPoint Zoom: Slide Zoom
Slide zoom is the ideal solution for making your presentation more dynamic and engaging . It allows you to freely navigate through slides in a sequence of your choosing without interrupting the flow of your presentation.
To create a slide zoom , go to Insert and then click Zoom. Next, select the Slide Zoom option to open the Slide Zoom dialog box. You can now select the slides you want to use and create your PowerPoint zoom by clicking Insert .

PowerPoint automatically sets your slide zoom level as the slide preview thumbnail . To replace this image with your own, select the "Format" tab from the ribbon. Then click "Change Picture" to insert an image from your computer or the internet.
PowerPoint Zoom: Section Zoom
A section zoom is a link to a zoom view already present in your presentation. Section zooms are therefore useful for switching to sections you wish to emphasize.
To create a section zoom , select " Section Zoom" under "Zoom". Then select the section you want to use as the section zoom . To create a PowerPoint zoom, select "Insert".

Here too, PowerPoint automatically sets a preview thumbnail. You can change this to an image of your choice by following the same steps as described under "PowerPoint Zoom: Slide Zoom" .
PowerPoint Zoom: Zoom Options
