Manage PowerPoint templates and slides via SharePoint and the slide library

|Tom Schweitzer
If you work in a larger company with many employees and departments, the coordination and exchange of content via central filing systems is practically a necessity. The "Slide Library" feature allows you to centrally manage PowerPoint templates on a SharePoint server (Note: This feature is no longer supported from SharePoint 2013 onwards). The feature is directly integrated with SharePoint and therefore requires a SharePoint server and access to the company network. If you want to access it from outside the network, this is usually done via a Virtual Private Network (VPN). As a PowerPoint user, you can open a slide library under the menu item "New Slide" -> "Reuse Slides…" and insert all or individual slides from the library into your presentation. If you have the necessary permissions, you can also edit existing templates and slides in the slide library. This will update these changes for all versions stored in the slide library, making them available to your colleagues. PowerPoint slide library with SharePoint

Adding a slide from a slide library

  1. In the presentation to which you want to add a slide, go to the appropriate point in the slide area.
  2. Switch to the "Home" tab and click the arrow below "New Slide". From the menu, select the option "Reuse Slides...".
  3. Select "Open Slide Library" and open the desired slide library.
  4. From the "All Slides" list, select the slides you want to add.
To use the slide library, it must be set up on the SharePoint system. If a slide library is not yet set up on the server, you will need the appropriate access rights in the SharePoint system to create one.
