Successful presentations are visually appealing and easy to understand. Therefore, it's crucial that the content is neatly and clearly aligned. When your slides are well-organized, you can guide the audience's attention; conversely, a lack of alignment can quickly make your presentation appear unconvincing and half-baked. Furthermore, the human subconscious expects sequences to follow straight lines. If this isn't the case, your audience can easily lose track and perceive the presented content less effectively.
The right tools help optimize the layout and clearly structure your slides. PowerPoint offers the following options for this: guides, grids, smart guides, arrange commands, and the object size and position dialog.
Guide lines and grids
- Guide lines are particularly useful for arranging complex diagrams correctly.
- First, a grid of guide lines is created on the slide, which then shows the distances of the placeholders to the edge.
- The red guide line marks the edge of the foil.
- Click the View tab, and then in the Show field, click the small arrow in the bottom right corner. The Grids and Guides dialog box will open, allowing you to set up and display grids for slides.
- This tool is especially helpful if you want to arrange many objects on one slide.

Intelligent guide lines
- Smart guidelines are useful when drawing objects and also help with arrangement.
- You activate these by checking the bottom box next to "Show smart guides when aligning shapes" in the Grid and Guides dialog box.
- Red lines will now show you whether the edges of the objects on the slide match.

Using the Arrange tools
- The arrangement tools are very useful when all objects need to be drawn first and then aligned.
- They can be found under the Home tab or under Drawing Tools/Format .

Determine object sizes and positions precisely
- For example, if logos of the same size are always to be positioned in the same place, it is necessary to determine both precisely.
- Place the first logo in your desired location.
- Right-clicking on the logo gives you the option to select the menu item "Size and Position" .
- Here you can now read the values for the height and width of the logo and, if necessary, refine them further.
- Finally, insert your second logo on the following slide and set the same values again in the same menu. Now both logos are in exactly the same position.

Using the tools described, you should find it easy to organize your presentations. While organization is often only perceived subconsciously, it has a crucial impact on the effectiveness of your presentation! You'll find that your presentations immediately appear much more organized and your audience can follow your content more easily.
