TED Talks are generally very well received by audiences and succeed in inspiring them. At the same time, TED Talks convey important information in a short amount of time and connect with the audience on a personal level.
To deliver a good TED Talk, there are several things to consider. Most successful TED Talks of recent years have had one thing in common: they all started with the question "Why?"
Simon Sinek – “Start with Why”
Simon Sinek, an American author, laid the foundation for this principle in his book "Start with Why." But this book isn't just helpful for TED Talks; it can also be a great help if you're unsure how to approach your next presentation.
Because the principle of starting with the question "Why? " can be applied well to TED Talks, but just as well to presentations and other lectures.
In his book, Sinek described a pattern. He claims that successful people always think, communicate, and act similarly. However, this approach is often the opposite of what many companies do.
The “Golden Circle”
To clearly explain why it makes sense to start with the "why" and then work through further questions, there is the "Golden Circle". In German, this simply means the golden circle.

As the circle describes, you communicate from the inside out, explaining the "how " after the "why" and then the "what".
- The “Why”
Very few companies know exactly why they do what they do. The "why" cannot be answered with words like "revenue" or "profit"; it's about a deeper reason why the company exists.
- The “how”
To answer the “how” , a company needs to know what sets it apart from its competitors and what exactly makes that one company so special.
- That what"
The "what" is easier to answer than the other two questions. What a company does should be easy to answer and consists of the products or services it provides.
Conclusion: Convincing the audience with the “Golden Circle”
Incorporate the "Golden Circle" into your next presentation and convince your audience of your company's value. Also, find out more about tactics for delivering a successful TED Talk in our blog article on the topic of "TED Talks" .
