Mr. Becker, could you briefly describe your work as a Camtasia trainer?
The main goal is to make it easier for participants to get started quickly and to help them avoid typical beginner mistakes in the field of learning videos. Therefore, participants not only learn how to use the software, but also a wide range of topics related to screencasting. One example is creating a script or storyboard, which is essential for professional learning videos.
One of your main areas of focus is creating learning videos. What characterizes learning videos and in which fields are they used?
The field of learning videos has completely transformed in recent years. What was considered a "nice to have" in companies a few years ago has now become a "must-have." Both customers and employees now expect the opportunity to learn through videos and other electronic media (webinars, MOOCs, etc.).
Videos are used in all sectors. Two examples: A large corporation is introducing a global in-house software solution and is creating introductory videos that—in conjunction with in-person seminars—(keyword: blended learning) are designed to enable quick and easy use of the software. A medium-sized company in the food industry is producing videos on workplace safety and supplementing them with text and graphics. In short: There is no industry that cannot benefit from training videos!
Why should users choose Camtasia? What are its advantages over other video editing software?
Camtasia offers the perfect blend of ease of use and essential features for creating professional training videos. Besides the ability to add effects to videos, such as callouts, mouse pointer highlighting, keyboard clicks, spotlights, zooms, etc., it's also easy to add subtitles for sharing on social media platforms.
How does PowerPoint and Camtasia work together?
During the Camtasia installation process, a PowerPoint add-in is also installed. Using this add-in allows you – to highlight just one advantage – to later generate a table of contents for the video and even make the video searchable.
What exactly do participants learn in your seminar "Creating Informative Learning Videos" at PresentationLoad?
Every learning video goes through four phases: First, the screen is recorded. In the second step, the video is edited, for example, the video is cut, the audio quality is optimized, and additional effects are added. Then, it is produced in the required video format.
In the final step, the video is distributed, for example, uploaded to one of the video platforms. On some well-known platforms, this happens directly from within Camtasia using a pre-configured production profile.
In addition to this software-related content, I show participants how to create a professional script/storyboard, how to select the right technology (microphone, computer, possibly camera, ...), how learning videos should be structured didactically, and what should generally be considered in the production process.
Thank you so much for the interview!
