Tile designs have dominated user interface design for years. Since Windows 8 at the latest, tiles have become indispensable design elements, both on desktop and mobile devices. Such a design can also be implemented in PowerPoint; we'll show you how.
Tiles and flat design have become the dominant design paradigms in software, websites, and apps. In a previous article , we explained why a tile design is worthwhile. In PowerPoint presentations, charts and graphs in this style can be implemented as infographics. Simply follow our instructions.
- First, create the tiles as rectangular shapes ("Rectangle" in the "Shapes" menu under the "Insert" tab). If you hold down the Shift key while dragging the shape, you will get a square shape.
- If you want multiple tiles of the same size, duplicate the shape using the keyboard shortcut CTRL + D.
- Arrange the tiles on the slide accordingly. In PowerPoint 2013 and later versions, guide lines will be displayed automatically for this purpose.
- Applies to PowerPoint 2010 and earlier versions: You can determine the exact positioning of the tiles using the commands under "Align" in the "Drawing Tools" under "Format".
- Give the tiles the desired color by setting the appropriate fill effect in the "Drawing Tools" under "Format". If you want the tiles to be displayed without a border, select the "No Border" option in the menu under "Shape Outline" -> "Border" in the "Drawing Tools".
- Insert the appropriate vector icons and position them on the corresponding tiles. You can adjust the size as needed in PowerPoint.
- To add text to the tile, insert it directly into the tile (“Drawing Tools” -> “Format” -> “Text Box”). You can set the text alignment under “Home” using the “Align Text” option. This will use the outer edges of the tile.
- You can highlight important words or numbers by increasing the font size or by using bold text.
