Identified: The biggest time wasters when using PowerPoint

|Tom Schweitzer

Did you know that employees and freelancers spend an average of 100 hours per year creating presentations and working with PowerPoint?

This was the finding of a cross-industry study conducted by the market research company INNOFACT.
The result makes it clear: Whether for trade fairs, lectures or pitches – presentations are an integral part of everyday business life, and a correspondingly large amount of time is spent on their creation and preparation.

However, a study by GfK a few years ago already showed that employees spend too much time formatting their PowerPoint slides. Of an average of 20 hours of work with PowerPoint per month, around 8 hours are spent on mostly repetitive tasks.

  • Slide design and formatting
  • Creating charts and tables
  • Transferring older slides to a new design
  • Image/Icon Research
  • Up-to-dateness check of presentations
  • Search for master templates

Often, what seem like minor details at first glance are nonetheless essential for a perfect presentation. And these seemingly small things ultimately consume a full 40 percent of the time spent working with PowerPoint.
Therefore, it is all the more important to do something about these time-wasters and thus free up more valuable time for other important tasks!
