When preparing your presentation, always keep in mind what your audience needs and wants to know about your topic . Focus less on what you can tell them and more on their needs. Your business audience is busy and decisive . They want concise, impactful information . Presentations often lead to decisions, so your primary goal should be to convey to your audience why your message is important to you.

Always create your slides with your audience in mind. Your presentation must be geared towards what you want your audience to gain from it. Knowing more about your audience and their expectations will allow you to tailor your presentation to be more interesting and engaging .

To deliver an effective, goal-oriented presentation , you should ask yourself the following questions when preparing your presentation:


Identifying audience needs for presentations

#1 KNOWLEDGE.

Take time to think about who your audience will be . Why is your audience listening to your presentation? What do they hope to gain from it ? What does your audience already know about your topic? How can you make your message as interesting and relevant as possible for your audience?

#2 EXPECT.

What are your audience's expectations ? How can you solve their problems? What can you say and convey to meet or even exceed these expectations ?

#3 FEEL.

Will your listeners have positive, negative, or neutral feelings about your message ? How should you address these feelings? What doubts, fears, and misconceptions does your audience have?

#4 REMEMBER.

Consider what your audience will remember 24 hours after your presentation . No matter how good your presentation was, participants won't remember much the next day. At best, they'll recall your key takeaways and some of your most compelling slides. What is the core message (or the three most important points) you want your audience to take away? Deliver it in a way that won't be forgotten.

#5 DO.

What actions should your audience take based on your message? Do you offer a clear call to action (more information here )? How do you motivate your audience to take this action (tips here )? Remove as many obstacles as possible that might prevent your audience from accepting your message and responding to your call to action.
